Simtokha Dzong : Built in 1629 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, who unified Bhutan, Simtokha Dzong is the first dzong constructed in Bhutan. A significant historical monument and former Buddhist monastery, it now houses one of Bhutan's leading Dzongkha language institutes.

Ta Dzong : Once a watchtower built to protect Rinpung Dzong during the 17th-century inter-valley wars, Ta Dzong was transformed into the National Museum of Bhutan in 1968.
