Winter is the best time to visit Kaziranga National Park. During winter i.e. anytime between ends of November to end week of March you can travel Kaziranga. Winter in North East begins in early November and goes till end of March. The winters in these regions are soothing and travel friendly. The temperature in Kaziranga during this winter ranges from 24 degrees Celsius maximum to 6 degrees Celsius minimum. The long stretched vast swampy land of Kaziranga among winter mist appears majestic when you roam about this wonderland on an elephant safari. Exploring Kaziranga is best on elephant back as it don't follow any fixed path and takes you through some of the places where jeep cannot reach. Jeep Safari during winter holidays is also wonderful. Book an open hood jeep and explore some of the best ranges which offer majestic wildlife of Kaziranga from a close distance. Though Jeep safari can be little bit dusty but enjoyable.
Summer is also a good time to explore Kaziranga, but hot and humid temperature and make you uncomfortable. Monsoon is not the ideal time to book any Kaziranga Package as this vast open land receives plenty of rains and every year gets flooded by mighty Brahmaputra River. Human and wild life becomes standstill during monsoon. So it is better to avoid Kaziranga tour plan between first of June to end of September.

Visitors can enjoy a refreshing dip in the natural pool, walk along the viewpoint bridge, or simply relax while soaking in the beauty of the surrounding forest. At sunrise and sunset, the entire canyon glows in shades of gold and orange, creating an unforgettable sight.
Thadlaskein Lake: Thadlaskein Lake, also known as Pung Sajar Nangli, is a serene, man-made lake surrounded by lush greenery. Situated near Jowai in Meghalaya, this lake holds great historical and cultural significance for the local people. According to legends, it was created by a group of followers of a rebel leader who dug the lake with their bows. Today, it serves as a peaceful picnic spot and a place for quiet reflection, offering a perfect blend of beauty and heritage.
Stone Bridge (Monolith Bridge of Kudeng Rim): The ancient Stone Bridge, located near Kudeng Rim village in the Jaintia Hills, is a remarkable example of traditional Khasi engineering. Built centuries ago using massive stone slabs without any mortar, it served as a crucial link between villages. Surrounded by lush forests and streams, this bridge not only showcases the architectural ingenuity of the local tribes but also adds a mystical charm to Meghalaya's cultural landscape.
After day long activity and exploration, in the evening return hotel. Relax and night stay in Shillong.

After breakfast in Shillong, begin your scenic drive towards Mawlynnong Village, proudly known as "The Cleanest Village in Asia". As you wander through the charming cobbled lanes, you'll notice how every corner of the village is spotless and beautifully maintained by the locals. Enjoy interacting with the friendly Khasi villagers and learn about their eco-friendly lifestyle and community-led cleanliness practices. Don't miss climbing the Sky View Point, a bamboo observation tower offering a spectacular panoramic view of the neighboring plains of Bangladesh.
You can also explore the Living Root Bridge nearby - a marvel of natural architecture crafted by intertwining the roots of ancient rubber trees. Take a short nature walk through the lush greenery, listen to the sound of the forest, and capture some stunning photographs of this unique masterpiece.
After lunch, proceed towards Dawki, a picturesque border town located along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Here, you'll witness the breathtaking Umngot River, renowned for its crystal clear emerald waters that appear almost transparent - making boats look as if they are floating in mid-air. Enjoy a serene boat ride on this river, gliding through the calm waters surrounded by green cliffs and hanging bridges.
You can also visit the India-Bangladesh Friendship Gate, where you can see the border line separating the two nations and observe people and trade activities across the boundary. The experience gives a rare glimpse into cross-border culture and connection.
After spending a memorable day amid nature and culture, continue your journey to Cherrapunji, known for its waterfalls and misty landscapes, for a peaceful overnight stay amidst the clouds.

A visit to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat Village is undoubtedly one of the most thrilling highlights of any Kaziranga Shillong Cherrapunji package tour from Guwahati Airport. Hidden deep within the lush valleys of Meghalaya, this trek offers a perfect blend of adventure, culture, and nature. The journey begins from Tyrna Village, located about 12 kilometers from Cherrapunji (Sohra). Tyrna serves as the base point for the trek, and travelers who book their Kaziranga Shillong Cherrapunji tour package from Guwahati generally stay overnight in Cherrapunji and start their adventure early the next morning, around 7 or 8 AM, to take advantage of the cool morning weather.
The trek to Nongriat is approximately three kilometers one way, but it's not a simple walk. It involves descending over 3,500 steep stone steps that wind through dense forest, suspension bridges, and tiny Khasi villages. It usually takes around one and a half to two hours to trek down to the Double Decker Bridge and another two to three hours to climb back up. The return journey can be physically demanding as the climb is steep and continuous, making the trek moderately difficult and best suited for those with a reasonable level of fitness. However, every step is worth it - the path itself is incredibly scenic, with mesmerizing views of forested hills, hanging bridges swaying over clear streams, and the sound of waterfalls echoing through the valley.
Along the way, trekkers pass by several attractions that add charm to the journey. One of the first stops is the Single Root Bridge, a smaller version of the double-decker marvel and an introduction to Meghalaya's living root architecture. As you move further, the landscape becomes more enchanting, leading you to the famous Jingkieng Nongriat, the Double Decker Living Root Bridge itself. This natural masterpiece, created by intertwining the roots of the Indian Rubber Tree over centuries, stands as a living testament to the Khasi tribe's harmony with nature. Nearby lies the breathtaking Blue Lagoon, a crystal clear natural pool with turquoise water, inviting trekkers for a refreshing dip after their long descent. If you're lucky, you may also spot colorful butterflies fluttering through the Butterfly Valley, adding a magical touch to the trail.
Although the route is clearly marked, hiring a local guide is highly recommended, especially for first time visitors. The guides not only ensure safety but also share fascinating stories about the bridges, local traditions, and village life. Many Kaziranga Shillong Cherrapunji package tour plans from Guwahati include guided treks as part of their itinerary, making the experience more immersive and hassle free. Trekkers should start early in the morning to avoid darkness or rain on the way back. It's important to wear comfortable trekking shoes with a good grip, as the stone steps can become slippery after rainfall. Carry at least two liters of water per person, along with some light snacks or energy bars to keep yourself hydrated and energized. Avoid carrying heavy backpacks and keep your essentials minimal. During the monsoon season, trekkers are also advised to apply insect repellent or salt on their shoes to prevent leech bites.
There are a few small tea stalls and local eateries along the route and near Nongriat Village where simple Khasi meals, snacks, and bottled water are available. Still, it's wise to carry your own reusable water bottle and some dry food. The trek descends about 2,400 feet from Tyrna down to Nongriat, which means the climb back up is equally steep and physically demanding. It's best to rest for a while in the village or near the Blue Lagoon before starting your ascent. The entire trek, including rest stops and exploration, takes roughly five to six hours, making it a full day activity.
The weather in this region remains pleasant throughout the year, though it can change quickly. The summer months from March to June are warm and comfortable, perfect for trekking. The monsoon season between July and September turns the forest into a lush green paradise but makes the steps slippery and the rivers turbulent. Winter, from October to February, offers the most comfortable weather and clear skies, making it the best time for Double Decker Living Root Bridge trekking and ideal for inclusion in your Kaziranga Shillong Cherrapunji package tour booking from Guwahati.
Trekking to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat is not just an adventure; it's an experience that captures the true essence of Meghalaya's natural and cultural heritage. The sight of the massive intertwined roots, the soothing sound of waterfalls, the friendly locals, and the untouched beauty of the forest make this journey unforgettable. Whether you include it in your Kaziranga Shillong Cherrapunji tour from Guwahati Airport, or visit independently, this day long trek will remain etched in your memory as one of the most extraordinary adventures of Northeast India.

On 7th day of this Shillong Cherrapunji tour package, after enjoying your breakfast, begin your scenic journey towards Shillong, the enchanting capital of Meghalaya, often called the "Scotland of the East." As part of your Assam and Meghalaya combo tour package, this day will take you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes and natural wonders of the region.
Your first stop will be the mesmerizing Wei Sawdong Falls, a three tiered waterfall famous for its crystal clear blue green waters and picture perfect surroundings. It's a hidden gem near Cherrapunji, offering travelers a peaceful escape amidst nature's charm. Next, you'll visit the famous Seven Sisters Waterfalls, also known as Nohsngithiang Falls, where seven streams of water plunge dramatically down the limestone cliffs - a truly awe-inspiring sight, especially during the monsoon season.
Continue your Cherrapunji sightseeing tour package experience with a visit to the mysterious Arwah Cave, known for its ancient fossils and limestone formations. Walking through its narrow passages and natural tunnels gives you a glimpse into Meghalaya's fascinating geological history. A short drive ahead will take you to the world famous Nohkalikai Falls, one of the tallest plunge waterfalls in India. The panoramic view of this majestic waterfall cascading from the misty cliffs is absolutely unforgettable.
Before reaching Shillong, stop by the popular Mawsmai Cave, another natural wonder filled with stalactites and stalagmites that have been formed over thousands of years. The cave is well-lit and easy to explore, making it a perfect spot for photography and adventure.
By evening, you will reach Shillong and check in to your hotel for a relaxing overnight stay. After an exciting day exploring the marvels of Cherrapunji and its surroundings, unwind and enjoy the cool mountain breeze.
This journey beautifully connects the essence of both Assam and Meghalaya, making it a perfect inclusion in your Kaziranga National Park tour package or Wildlife Safari Assam Packages. Whether it's the lush greenery of Kaziranga or the misty waterfalls of Meghalaya, this combo trip ensures you experience the best of Northeast India - nature, adventure, and serenity all in one memorable journey.

After breakfast check out from the hotel and drop at Guwahati Airport as per timings. If time permits, visits to Basistha Ashram, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, 'Jagran' store for authentic Assamese silks & handicrafts, trip ends with memories.

Special thanks to Mr. Akash and Mr. Soumya. A big thumbs up and highly recommended.
